Osian's-Cinefan, the world's first and largest film-festival devoted to Asian & Arab cinema is part of Osian's Film House Division
Osian's-Cinefan is committed to bringing to audiences the finest films from India, Asia and the Arab countries and to breaking down the artistic hierarchies of the popular and the highbrow to reinvent a thoughtful and creative film culture for our times. The Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in July 2008.

Cinefan began in 1999 as an outgrowth of Cinemaya, a quarterly Asian cinema magazine published in New Delhi since 1988. The festival was launched with 27 films presented by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) and supported by the Government of Delhi. The focus that first year was on cinema of Japan as well as the 30th anniversary of the Indian New Wave with a selection of films by New Wave directors.
The festival was taken over in 2004 by Osian’s Connoisseurs of Art and was renamed Osian’s-Cinefan.

Osian’s-Cinefan, 10th Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema will be held in New Delhi from 10 - 20 July 2008. The special focus for this year's festival will be the relationship between WRITING AND CINEMA explored through film screenings and seminars. This section, comprising novels in adaptation, will be the basis of a new Literary Festival, introduced at Osian's-Cinefan for the first time. It will inculde readings and discussions between writers and filmmakers.

Osian’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Cinema instituted this year is being awarded to eminent film maker Mrinal Sen.
In a prolific career spanning almost five decades, Sen has directed feature films, short films and documentaries of varying content and cine-aesthetics, his works being permeated by his engagement with social issues and his acute political awareness, always exhibiting a deep analytical mind and humanist ideology.
Aruna Vasudev Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing on Cinema will be conferred on Jose "Pete" F. Lacaba.
A poet, journalist, editor, translator, and screenwriter, Pete is a bilingual writer who writes in both English and Filipino. He is the author of six poetry collections in Filipino and a collection of journalistic reportage in English, Days of Disquiet, Nights of Rage. He is also the editor of a number of books, including The Films of ASEAN and Emmanuel Lacaba's Salvaged Poems and Salvaged Prose. He has written the screenplays of award-winning feature films that have been shown at various international film festivals, including Cannes, Venice and Toronto. His screenplay credits include Jaguar, Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim, Orapronobis, Sister Stella L., Eskapo, Segurista and Rizal sa Dapitan. Pete Lacaba is also the recipient of the Centennial Honors for the Arts for his significant contributions to culture and the arts in the twentieth century.

[edit] Talent Campus India #5 2008
Osian’s-Cinefan is proud to announce the 5th edition of Talent Campus India organised in collaboration with Berlinale Talent Campus, Berlin International Film Festival and Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi.
Talent Campus is a 6-day workshop where up to 30 young aspiring filmmakers will be invited from India, neighbouring South Asian countries and Iran to New Delhi to interact with renowned filmmakers and film professionals from India and abroad.
The aim of the workshop is to provide Indian and South Asian youth a forum for learning and sharing the process of filmmaking. The application is open to India, its neighbouring countries as well as Iran. Participants will benefit not only from the calibre and experience of the professionals involved, but also from the exchange of ideas among themselves. Areas of discussion will include screenplay writing, adaptation of novel, direction and understanding key issues such as audience and genre.
The 5th Talent Campus India will take place from 13 to 18 July, 2008. It will run along side Osian’s Cinefan, 10th Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema (10-20 July, 2008), within the framework of the programme ‘Infrastructure Building for Minds and Markets – IBM2.
In addition to attending seminars and workshops, the selected Talents will have the opportunity to see the very best of Asian cinema being showcased during Osian’s-Cinefan 10.
