[edit] NPOV

This article is blatantly NPOV.

I think you mean this article is blatantly *NOT* NPOV. I mentioned this a while back when I listed it on the copyvios page -- it just reeks of being copied from, say, the Gibson Guitar site or something similar, but I was unable to find anywhere specific that it was copied from. Regardless, this article needs a LOT of cleanup from someone more familiar with the subject.--chris.lawson 04:11, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

From reading the first reference, it is clear that this article says little about Orville Gibson and rather promotes the Gibson Company. Since there is already an article for the Gibson Company, I would like to move any relevent material to the company article and remove it from this article. Then, I would like to expand the biography for Gibson, the person. Thoughts?Mbartruff 20:07, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit

I've removed material from this page that has to do entirely with the company and will move it there -- then on the way back I'll pick up the material from THAT page that has to do with Gibson the man and bring it here. Accounting4Taste 19:56, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Done. And I echo the concerns of the other editors on this page -- there is an overabundance of material that sounds like it was lifted from a corporate brochure (but I Googled some specific phrases and found nothing). Still, both pages could use a comprehensive edit from someone who is familiar with the topics. Accounting4Taste 20:03, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archtops

This article states that Orville Gibson himself invented archtop guitars, whereas the article on Lloyd Loar states that Loar invented at least the archtop mandolin, and possibly the archtop guitar: "Loar worked for Gibson from 1919 to 1924. His contributions include building the instrument top with F-shaped holes, like a violin." messor (talk) 21:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
