[edit] {{helpme}}
Please use the helpme tag by placing it on your talk page, followed by the question that needs answering. Wherever it is that you have it now, we can't find it. -- ∞Dbroadwell 13:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Categorization
Adding "Motorcycle manufacturers" to articles which are already in a subcategory of that is not constructive. I've undone a couple of these but you know which ones you've done and which therefore need attention. GraemeLeggett 13:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Franco Uncini
Ciao! I reverted your edit on Franco Uncini as the format for biographies should be: "Attilio Stefano Funel (born on July 7, 1975) is an Italian unlucky engineer and writer. He was born in Rome etc.". Check Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Good work! --Attilios 13:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- The convention is that, if Italian, Poland is specified, the birthplace is automatically in Italy, etc. The use of hyperlinks allows Wikipedia to remove redundant specifications which are present in other Encyclopedias. Bye! --Attilios 13:39, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John Surtees
Hi. Sorry for going a bit overboard. Thanks for taking an interest. Pyrope 09:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
I reckon the case is one of personality. F1 types (and if I am honest I'm probably more a sports car racing kinda guy) are stats obsessives, and aren't so into the biographical details. I mainly got into editing F1 biographies as I was annoyed that so many great sports car drivers (of which JS was one) didn't have any mention of this in their bio pages. Pyrope 12:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Titles of headers
Ciao! Thanks for your additions. Only a note: title of headers must be not in capitals (i.e.: Motorcycle Grand Prix results, and not Results). See WP:Style for further info. Bye and good work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Attilios (talk • contribs)
[edit] Grand Prix motorcycle racing seasons
Thanks for creating articles for many of these seasons. Very good work. Prolog 20:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Very good work? Thats an understatement your work is absolutely amazing!!! I personally asked user:readro and you I think that forty years of motorcycle racing was missinng from wikipedia and could you do it and I find in only a week or two it is practically done. Wow. Terrific stuff. I bow my Ernst Stavro Blofeld bald head done to you . Well done! I will be awarding you a barnstar. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 13:04, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
The Original Barnstar | ||
This is awarded to Orsoni for his important and extensive work in providing the history of nearly forty years of motorcycle racing. Excellent work well done. I am proud of you Ernst Stavro Blofeld 13:09, 22 November 2006 (UTC) |
- I removed the GP motorcycle category from Hockenheimring. There is no such race here.--NSX-Racer 15:35, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Another compliment to you for the immense and impressive amount of work you did putting together the MotoGP seasons. I really wonder how you did it, though -- All manual entry? Scanning with text recognition? A little help from other web pages? A hint of an answer would be appreciated, but regardless, you've done a great job.--Uli Kunkel 22:35, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- I entered them manually :) My job means I'm stuck in one place with many hours to fill.
- You've sure put those hours to good use. On behalf of many MotoGP fans, thanks.--Uli Kunkel 17:45, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] CCM Armstrong Rotax
If u didn't put the CCM Armstrong request in To-do list, my error, but if correct... Have added a bit to CCM, SWM, and added both to Rotax engine users list. The one thing that is unclear is the relationship between CCM and Armstrong. In my "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Motorcycling" it says that "CCM became part of the Armstrong group in 1980", but Clews does not mention any of this on his CCM site history, and haven't found any other reference to date. The "MT-500" went through a few manufacturers in its life. Seasalt 11:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Have since spotted a brochure jpg on cybermotorcycles Armstrong of a CCM made by Armstrong. http://www.cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/armstrong/Armstrong%20CCM%20560MX%20c1984%20Brochure.htm My guess is Armstrong took over CCM in 1980. Clews is probably glossing over the historical details a bit. You are investigating the racers... good luck. Seasalt 12:25, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Came across an article in Classic Racer magazine on the North West 200 which mentions Armstrong buying Cotton, and taking over Rotax racer production. I have reproduced the NW 200 article, in case it is of any use. Seasalt 13:33, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Barry Sheene
Hi Orsoni, your info box has added some odd random text to the very top of the Barry Sheene article. I didn't want to revert it because I like the infobox, but you might want to play with the code a bit. kju 00:40, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adolf Weil
Please use the move function, instead of copy-and-paste, when renaming a page. This avoids splitting the page history in several places. -- ReyBrujo 19:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infoboxes
Please stop using {{subst…}} when adding infoboxes to articles as you have done for various motorcyclists: it's leaving an awful mess in the articles particularly since you have not supplied all the parameters (such as images). As you can see here, templates like these which have complex code to allow for optional parameters should not be substituted. Could you please either revisit those articles and replace the substituted text with the original infobox or at least make a note on the talk-page of which infobox you used so somebody else can tidy them up? If you do not know how to do this, feel free to drop me a line and I will endeavour to help you. TIA HAND —Phil | Talk 12:33, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- I was talking about articles like Graeme Crosby where you have obviously used
{{subst:infobox…}}
, but it's not obvious without some tedious digging which infobox you used. It would be much more helpful if you left the "subst:
" out: then the infobox would still be there and updates to the infobox template would be reflected in the article; it would also be much easier for people to fill in information which might have been missing. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 19:07, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Internal capitals in sort keys
You will notice that I have reverted your changes to Mike LaRocco [3] and Danny LaPorte [4]. Because of the way the software sorts titles, all capital letters precede all lower-case ones, so any internal capitals mess up the sorting scheme. I am not suggesting that the names ever appear as "Larocco" or "Laporte", but merely that they should be sorted correctly in the alphabet, between "Abdellatif Laabi" and "Giuseppe Lazzarotto", rather than (incorrectly) before them both.--Stemonitis 07:11, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 19xx in Formula One
Hi Orsoni. I notice you've been moving the 1950 F1 race reports into Category:1950 in Formula One. In the hopes of saving you some effort, a while back we decided to put the F1 race reports into a "race reports" subcategory of "19xx in Formula One", e.g. the 1950 race reports should go in Category:1950 Formula One race reports, a subcategory of Category:1950 in Formula One. See Category:2004 Formula One race reports as an example. -- DH85868993 10:55, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh damn - something I forgot to mention. When putting articles into the race report category, they should be sorted by the country name, e.g. 1950 British Grand Prix should contain "[[Category:1950 Formula One race reports|British]]". Sorry for any inconvenience. (I'll fix any you've redone in the meantime if you like) -- DH85868993 11:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and one more thing (hopefully the last one!). As you put the articles into the "19xx Formula One race reports" category, please remove them from Category:Formula One race reports. Thanks. -- DH85868993 11:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Help me
A page I edited received a Wikipedia:Template substitution tag on it. The page is a biography on Kevin Schwantz. Here is the template I copied: Template:Former F1 driver. I am not sure how to go about fixing this problem. Any help is appreciated.Orsoni 19:42, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Normally, templates like user warnings (eg. for vandalism ) should be substituted but the template you mentioned should not be substituted because any changes made to that template should reflect on the article page. So my guess is this template substitution tag was a mistake. Please ask me if you have any questions. - TwoOars 19:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wait, that's not true. What actually happened was, you probably subst:ed when you shouldn't have. Just remove that infobox from that article and then copy the "Cut-and-paste pro forma" from the template page. Then fill in the details. - TwoOars 20:02, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Do I click on the EDIT tag in the "Cut-and-paste pro forma" section? Or do I cut & paste directly from the "Cut-and-paste pro forma" section?Orsoni 20:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'll do one thing: I'll copy the infobox into the article for you. You fill in the details. - TwoOars 20:20, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
ok, done. Now you go to the Kevin Schwantz article, click on Edit this page and fill in the details. - TwoOars 20:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again! However, there are about 20 articles I need to fix so I was hoping to learn the proper way so I could go about fixing them. Sorry for being such a newb!Orsoni 20:27, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Uh, oh, I went ahead and filled in the details, sorry :P. Ok here are the step by step instructions:
- go to Template:Former F1 driver and copy the "Cut-and-paste pro forma" (the part that is in the grey box. Copy in the normal mode, not in the Edit mode)
- then go to the article page and click on Edit this page
- remove the subst:ed infobox. (That is from the part that says
<!-- use Template:MotoGP rider -->
to the part that says
|}<noinclude>
- paste the part that you had copied earlier
- fill in the details and save
- TwoOars 20:39, 15 June 2007 (UTC) Did you get that? can you do it now? - TwoOars 20:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes! Thank you for your help!Orsoni 20:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
I removed the helpme template because you are *not* looking for help anymore. :) And unfortunately there is no thankyou template. - TwoOars 21:02, 15 June 2007 (UTC) {{Helpme}} This template is misleading since the subject is a motorcycle racer and the template was made for Formula 1 drivers. Will I have to create a new template for motorcycle racers?Orsoni 21:27, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- WikiProject Motorcycling will probably be able to tell you.--Werdan7T @ 22:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Former motorcycle Grand Prix Racer" Template
I left a note on Template talk:Former motorcycle Grand Prix Racer about the default image size in the template. It appears you created it and I didn't want to hose anything up without getting your input. Thanks. ♫ Bitch and Complain Sooner ♫ 18:04, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Artie Bell
I saw that you added stub templates to Artie Bell which is a "Start-class" article. I removed the tags as this is no longer a stub; it is much more developed, so hope you don't mind. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 04:30, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kel Carruthers

[edit] Moving articles
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Bill Doran (disambiguation) and pasted it into Bill Doran. This is what we call a "cut and paste move", and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming an article is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. The history at Bill Doran has been repaired with regards to contributor attribution, but any others that have been copied in this way may remain to be addressed . If you have any questions about this, please feel free to let me know at my talk page. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
