Orsett is a place in the borough and unitary authority of Thurrock (formerly in Essex) in the East of England, United Kingdom.
Orsett is one of seven conservation areas in Thurrock[1].
Orsett contains a ring and bailey earthwork known locally as Bishop Bonner's palace. On the gravel terrace, there is a neolithic Causewayed enclosure discovered by as a result of crop marks which showed on aerial photographstaken by Dr St Joseph of Cambridge University.[2] It has three concentric ditches with a number of breaks or causeways.
The historic Orsett Hall, the home of the lords of the manor of Orsett was destroyed by fire in May 2007. Orsett Hall is being rebuilt during 2008/09[3]. The exterior design will be in keeping with the original Georgian building.
From 1894 to 1936 Orsett formed part of Orsett Rural District.
