Hi Orlando, I want to thank you for contributing to this article. Thanks for clarifying and providing a source for Bhagavan's birthday. It seems that there is some confusion as to the exact date and it's nice to have a source. I never knew where the 1885 date came from. I also updated the birth category to reflect that information. I did shorten the wording of the reference you provided, partly because the reference was almost longer than the body of the article and partly because the addition of the Muktananda material seemed somewhat unencyclopedic. Do you know of any public domain photos of Nityananda that we can upload to Wikipedia and include in the article? I mention that because given the brevity of the article I think we don't need any more external links. We need to expand the article with photos and attributable material.

I just got a copy of Chetananda's bio of Nityananda. I cannot find where he states that 1897 is Nityananda's birth year. Can you help me find it? TheRingess (talk) 13:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
It's in the Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication Data: "1. Nityananda, Swami 1897-1961", M.U. Hatengdi, Nityananda: The Divine Presence, Rudra Press, 1990, page iv. Orlando F 16:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm holding my copy, and now I see it. I'm wondering where that info came from. In Chapter 8, pg. 80, he states that there is still an air of mystery surrounding Nityananda's age. Even in chapter 1 he never gives an explicit year but simply talks about the turn of the century. TheRingess (talk) 17:04, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edits to Nityananda
It seems to me that your recent edits to the nityananda article, qualify as original research. I surfed over to the page with the photo of Nityananda and found the following at the end of the page.<quote> While it is unclear whether Nityananda had a teacher or not, it is clear that he spent some time with a teacher named Swami Sivananda, who lived in southern India. The photo below shows Nityananda as a young man in the arms of Sivanandam</quote>.
You make the statement (without providing a source) that "Such an intimate attitude is only explainable if Nityananda were that man's "spiritual son"". Has this speculation been published elsewhere? Why are there no other explanations? It seems, to me, that a casual reader, unfamiliar with Indian culture and the subject(s) pictured in the photo, has no context for understanding that statement.
Also regarding this statement: "It has been a matter of some controversy.." Where has this controversy been published? What makes it a controversy rather than a difference of opinion? I'm looking in Chetananda's book and he makes no mention of a controversy. The quote above mentions that it's unclear, but does not speak of a controversy.
Thanks for reading. I think we might need to seek a third opinion on the material.

[edit] Edits to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Would you kindly remove the addition you made to the site where you quote Osho. Osho was incorrect in his assessment of Maharishi on many levels, including name and birthplace and caste, though of course Mahrishi is beyond caste. The Varma family and the Srivastava family have for countless generations been one extended family. Their home is Jabalpur. All that Osho claims to know is incorrect there. The great Saints of India of our generation have all stood by Maharishi, Anandamayi Ma, Devaraha Baba, Swami Lakshmanjoo, Tatwala Baba, the disciples of Swami Shivanananda, the disciples of Ramakrishna, and many many others very well known and lesser known. Realize you are aiming to present facts, but in this case it is not the reality and Osho's website is not so appropriate according to the BLP guideline. He unfortunately had not true perception of Maharishi and was very far away from stating a neutral fact. And he gives no source for his information. Thank you. Namaste and all the best.
[edit] Notability of 'Sailor' Bob Adamson
A tag has been placed on 'Sailor' Bob Adamson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RMHED 21:23, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
