Talk:Orleans Territory

[edit] Orleans Territory ≠ Louisiana
"Orleans Territory is what we today think of as the State of Louisiana"
Incorrect. The State of Louisiana (however we "think of" it) includes the West Florida parishes, which were not part of the Purchase and were not part of the Territory of Orleans. I'll rewrite this when I have time.
[edit] "Counties"?
At what point did the counties of Orleans Territory change names into the parishes of modern Louisiana? --Jfruh 14:41, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
- I don't think they did. If you check the Act demarcating the counties, the counties are defined in terms of the parishes they encompass. I think that the Louisianans just dumped the counties at the first chance and returned to the parish system they were familiar with. — DLJessup 13:05, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
