If orkut was launched on 22 jan 2004, why only 30 jan 2007 (not 22) it has a doodle-like logo celebrating it's 3rd anniversary? 201.72.160.176 19:03, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I had read in a local newspaper sometime back that the founder wanted to find his old lost love. So he designed Orkut so that everyone could keep in touch with their loved ones... 1. Taking third party(alexa) information is always better than first party(orkut) or second party(myspace). 2. major problem with orkut data is: default country selected while registering is US. many users dont bother to cahnge, hence US users will be exaggerated 3. orkut wants to gain popularity in US, hence it has further link in their US data. 4. alexa says current visits against registered users stated by orkut. hence alexa is better. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vinay412 (talk • contribs) 06:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC). user:huntscorpio seem to be manipulating page since long as seen in history.

1. a data on % of users is of least significance for a new visitor to this page and he is updating that daily, which is completely unnecessary. and it should be stopped immediately. i think last digit of percentage of users is completely unnecessary for an encyclopedia user.

Keep the articles talk page for relevant topics. Not for launching personal attacks. Just refine your English bro while you are here. Its difficult to understand what you are saying as it is. As for your 'manipulating' its called updating. The last digit of the percentage is not important? who says? Try multiplying 1000000 users with 0.01 percent. It would be around 10000 users difference. Understand why it is relevant? It is not point of what you are adding or deleting. Its just a point of relevance and making sure that the article doesn't sound like an advertising banner. And again leave all your comment signed using the ~~~~. And if you want to talk about history and contributions just look at your contributions. Just see yourself talking :P you quarrel like kid(which is what you are). Common sense is not so common you see. If what you are doing is common sense then I'm better off without it. I'm not reverting your edit because atleast one of us should show some maturity. When I first added the demographic data to orkut I rounded-off the percentage to one decimal place. Some wise soul decided that we need more precision and updated it to two decimal places. I did not revert nor changed that format because thats the format in which it was available on orkut. So I think that it is more accurate rather than we rounding it off. Since then I have been simply updating. And regarding your 'personal attacks' - What goes around, comes around bro. Sup kid? :D you are using talk pages for experimenting now? There is always the sandbox to try out the strikeout option. Wikipedia does not run on common sense. It runs on the basic wheels called policies that a have a general agreement of the Admins, Sysops and editors. Hey guys, let's try and be nice here. I know neither of you agree, but there is no need for personal attacks. Discussions about disagreements are much nicer if everyone is civil, which I'm sure both sides could be a little bit more of. Majority of educated Indians believe that Orkut digital social network should be moderated heavily in a place where people lack the maturity and misuse its facilities.

No one has the right to make such a statement without a strong backing of facts and figures. I have changed the begining of the line to:

I can understand that Wikipedians may be suspicious of new external links as Wikipedia spam is a real problem. However, the WikiSummaries summary of the Orkut TOS adds benefit to Wikipedians wishing to know more about their rights regarding the service; it covers information which is typically outside of the scope of Wikipedia articles. Further, if the scope of Wikipedia's Orkut article were to change, the WikiSummaries document is provided under the GNU FDL and is therefore compatible to have information from it incorporated into Wikipedia. The Orkut entry (as of 11:54 am PDT 3/26/07) is ridiculously badly written and organized and flouts the NPOV policy right and left. Is there a way to flag this entry as "unreliable" or "challenged as to its accuracy"? Wroush 18:55, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Number of users? "As of 9th April, 2007, the number of members was over 49 million[citation needed]." On the About Orkut page: [[1]]

"In fact, orkut's top 50 communities, with more than 37 million total members and nearly 1.3 million daily visitors, have no illegal content whatsoever."

That is the top 50 only, but that's still a difference of 12 million.

"Orkut goes a step further by permitting the creation of easy-to-set-up simple forums (called "communities") of users."... how is this any different than Facebook groups or Myspace groups. It's the same thing, just a different name. Users can creat groups which have "simple forums" among other things.

Orkut applications started appearing on user's profile from 16th april 2008 as clearly listed on official orkut blog also. and started with 18 applications and then later on more apps are added. anantshri (talk) 18:54, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I am a regular user of Orkut, and can vouch for the accuracy of content in the article (which of course, doesn't count!). But, except for the recent events (which will not remain recent in a fast-moving world), all other facts are supported well by facts. So, I believe some of the matter (particularly pertaining to various episodes of hacking or virus-spread) is unrequired that could be dealt with in a different article, say, "important incidents related to Orkut"

Most importantly, it is a well-written and an excellent article.

I'm planning to nominate it for a good article, at least, if no one does that in a few days. It has all the potential to become a featured article, and deserves to be one considering the currency of the topic.
