Orkdalen ('the valley of Orkla') is a traditional Norwegian district in Trøndelag, consisting of the municipalities of Rennebu, Meldal and Orkdal. The river Orkla runs through this valley.
The municipalities of Oppdal and Skaun are often (traditionally) counted as a parts of the district Orkdalen - even though they lie outside the actual river valley of Orkla.
In the early Viking Age, before Harald Fairhair, Orkdalen was a petty kingdom.
