[edit] Rif Dimashq
Hi. Alright fine, there's no need to rush things, we can take our time. I, too, am a little busy this week. I created this page for our work. It is in my watchlist, for now let's collect some references, I will try to look for references and sources and if you're free do the same. Whenever enough is available and the time is right, we can allot the parts to work on. Thanks again. You know where to find me if you need anything. All the best my friend. :) ↔ ANAS - Talk 12:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Orionist. Thank you for the additions, especially the flickr site, I didn't know about the CC licensed images search, quite useful. I will continue to look for more sources. If you haven't already, you can add the page and its talk to your watchlist. Have a great day! ↔ ANAS - Talk 13:56, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, peer review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- Our requests page has extensive lists of requested articles, images, maps, and translations.
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 13:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

--Shaolin128 18:43, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Good job, but..
Very useful Orionist. Cheers on the good job. But, it seems it's a bit of an intricate issue. According to Wikipedia policy, if an image is in the public domain in a country, but not in the United States, it can't be used (and vice versa). So even if an image is in the public domain in Syria, it should abide with the law in the United States, as explained here and in the first line here. Too bad though, Syrian law was much more, uh, undemanding; damn! :D
However, if Syria has not signed a copyright treaty with the United States, it should be OK to use these images as images in the public domain. But, obviously, this is not so; according to this, Syria does have a treaty with the United States. "50 years after the author's death", which if I may add, is not only hard to confirm, but it's quite difficult to find such images.
About the rest of the country laws and that template, well, pretty much the same case. Food for thought, what do you think? ← ANAS Talk? 21:14, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Syria
Hi, Orionist. If you're interested, I would like to invite you to join the list of members for WikiProject Syria. I am hoping to launch this WikiProject if enough dedicated members are willing to contribute. Our main aim from this project is to help improve and maintain Syria-related articles. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me them on my talk page. Thank you! - Anas Talk? 22:25, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- For now, you can add {{User WP Syria}} to your user page to add a userbox and yourself to the category of participants. I've already spent almost ten hours creating and designing WikiProject Syria. I will report back when I'm done from designing the principal elements of WP:SY. Regards, Anas talk? 16:42, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome back!
Hey, Orionist. It's good to see you're back in action. Welcome back! Concerning certain articles of Syrian cities, if these have been classified as cities then they are cities, officially (albeit being too small to logically be ones). This information is from the CBSSYR (Central Bureau of Statistics of Syria) and other governorate official websites. Although they are missing a few, you can find these cities in list of cities in Syria. Looking forward to your contributions. —Anas talk? 12:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I guess you're right there. In CBSSYR, governorate administrative divisions include either villages (قريات) or cities (مدن). I agree with your proposal; "X is a small city" it is. You may modify any of these articles as you see fit. See you around! —Anas talk? 14:17, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Disambiguating UAE emirates and capitals
At several of the talk pages for the individual Emirates of the UAE, queries or proposals have been put forth for having separate articles for the emirates and their eponymous capitals (e.g. here and here. As of now, two of the emirates have been disambiguated from their capitals: Abu Dhabi (emirate) / Abu Dhabi and Ajmān / Ajmān (city). If you are interested in discussing a comprehensive approach to the issue, please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Western Asia#Disambiguating UAE emirates and capitals. — AjaxSmack 19:06, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
