[edit] History

On August 4, 1993, the chairman of Orihuela Juventud y Deportes, Pedro Albarracín, received a notification from Valencian Community Football Federation (Valencian Community) allowing him to change the name of the club to Orihuela Club de Fútbol.

A few months before, when the youth team Atlético Orihuela was promoted to Liga Nacional, the presidents of both clubs, Pedro Albarracín and Francisco González Polín, agreed that Orihuela Juventud y Deportes should merge with Atlético Orihuela to create the current Orihuela Club de Fútbol.

The first Orihuela CF home kit was orange shirts and white shorts, just like the former Orihuela Juventud y Deportes, because the historical Orihuela Deportiva (founded in 1944) were still competing. Once Orihuela Deportiva disappeared in 1994, Orihuela CF adopted their colours (yellow and blue) and became the most important team in town.

From the 1993/1994 season to the 1995/1996 season the club played in Primera Regional, obtaining promotion to Regional Preferente in summer 1996. At the end of the 1996/1997 season, the new chairman Ángel Fenoll acquired the place of Club Deportivo Los Garres of Tercera División - Grupo 13 and Orihuela CF began their new era in Spanish national football.

It was with Paco Gómez as the club owner that Orihuela CF reached Segunda División B in the 2001/2002 season for the first time in their history, after being defeated several times in the play-offs. However, a very bad season ended with the team back in Tercera División.

In 2002/2003 things didn't change for the better, as Paco Gómez became the new owner of FC Cartagena and focused his efforts on his new team, although he was still the Orihuela CF chairman. A year later, José Rodríguez Murcia acquired the club and after two seasons in charge Orihuela CF were promoted again to the Segunda División B, where they are nowadays fighting for promotion to the Segunda División.
