Origin refers to the beginning, starting-point, cause, or ultimate source, from which a thing is derived.

- A general point in time. Also referred to more in technical senses an Epoch, Epochal date, Epochal event, Epochal moment, but with more specific meaning.
- A human's genealogy.
- A dog's pedigree.
- The place or point at which a muscle, nerve, etc., arises.
- The point of intersection of the axes in Cartesian coordinate system.
- The pole in polar coordinates.
- The source of a river system.
- The first stage of existence.
- The birth of a living entity, thought, belief or idea.
