Organic Surrealism is a method of pure psychic automatism by which one expresses verbally, in writing, or by any other method “the true functioning of the mind”. Dictation occurs in the absence of any control exercised by reason, and beyond any aesthetic, moral preoccupation, or law based in reality. The Surrealists felt free to find their own routes of expression - whether they chose abstract forms, fantastic imagery, or disquieting depictions of everyday life, the choice was an individual one. They believed that art should reflect its time. Therefore, since society was being lead by “madmen”, art should reflect that madness.
