In 2008, the U.S. state of Oregon will conduct elections for the statewide offices of Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Attorney General.

There will also be elections for all 60 districts of the Oregon House of Representatives, and for half the seats of the Oregon State Senate.

The primary election was held on May 20, 2008, and the general election will be held in November 2008. Both elections will also include national offices (including President of the United States, the United States Senate, and the United States House of Representatives); statewide and local ballot measures; and local elections.

[edit] Candidates for statewide offices

Candidates for Secretary of State are Democrat Kate Brown (who defeated Rick Metsger, Vicki Walker, and Paul Damian Wells in the Democratic primary) and Republican Rick Dancer, who was unopposed in the Republican primary.[1]

For Treasurer, Democrat Ben Westlund and Republican Allen Alley were unopposed in their respective primaries.

Democrat John Kroger defeated Greg Macpherson for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General; no Republican filed for this race.[2]

[edit] Ballot measures

In the May primary election, three statewide ballot measures were voted on. Measures 51 and 52 amended the Oregon Constitution with regard to crime victims' rights; Measure 53 also amended the state Constitution to modify the limits on property forfeited in criminal cases.

Measures 51 and 52 passed by wide margins. The near final results show Measure 53 was passing by 480,270(50.07%) to 478,927 (49.93%).[3] The vote must be certified by June 9, and an automatic recount is triggered if the margin is less than .2%.[4]
