[edit] Early History
Oreanda hotel was built in 1907. The place for building the hotel was chosen by the retired general of a hussar regiment, a professor who taught tactics of military success at the Academy of General Staff, Alexander Vitmer. Pre-revolutionary guide-books inform that the hotel had "perfect provision, excellent furniture, mirror glasses, cleanness and much fresh air, a well kept garden around". During the revolutionary period its walls served as a fort post and a defensive fortification for the White Guardists, and during World War II a military hospital was placed in the hotel. After the war the hotel transformed to a recreation center and regained the status of a hotel only by the end of 1950. With its various statuses the hotel was three times reconstructed in 1950, 1980 and in 2001.
