[edit] Regional Suburbs project

Goal and Rationale

To bring these hitherto undocumented sections of Western Australia up to the standard expected of any other city in Australia. These require a fair amount of research as, while as gazetted and valid as any other Australian suburb, they often have no formal documentation and due to the small size of their centres are often simply referred to by their city name. My goal is to get every article completed to stub status initially, with a map, infobox, navbox, ABS information and where possible gazettal. Next stage is history and features.

Scope

Every suburb or locality within the relevant template boxes above. This includes:

  • The entirety of the City of Bunbury, and City of Mandurah.
  • Neighbouring sections of Shires of Harvey, Dardanup, Capel and Murray.
  • The metropolitan and near-metropolitan sections of the City of Geraldton-Greenough and the City of Albany.

Specifically excluded are localities which are only part of the LGA but not part of the metro - we are not in the business of generating non-notable stubs that can never be expanded.

Sources

Initial stage:

  • Streetsmart street directory (2007)
  • ABS 2001 Census (and 2006 when it comes out in November). Note that apart from Mandurah, none of the above are gazetted as "state suburbs", so the QuickStats map engine has to be used to glue CCD's together. In some cases data may be insufficient to proceed.
  • Govt Gazette notes
  • Any DOLA publications for name origins (easier for Mandurah than the others)
  • Any leads from Streetsmart (i.e. facilities information from council websites, news articles etc)

Next stage:

  • Demographics and politics sections where possible.
  • Gazetted reserves and features
  • History books in Battye or local library in each location
  • Hunt local newspapers for useful articles or leads, bigger ones may lead to specified search of West Australian or other state newspapers.

For Bunbury, Mandurah and Geraldton, in some cases I will be able to supply photos. Need to establish collaboration with local editors to assist in this, and also to provide useful local knowledge which may give leads to other research sources or avenues.

[edit] Perth suburbs project

Goal and Rationale

Now that Hamersley's at FA, I need to spread that effort outwards to cover Warwick, Greenwood, Carine, Duncraig, Balcatta and Gwelup, and to improve the already decent articles I wrote last year for Waterman, North Beach, Marmion and Sorrento. There is no reason why all of the above cannot be GA's within a short period of time. This is, therefore, the goal on this group of suburbs.

A subsidiary goal is to get every suburb in the City of Wanneroo, City of Joondalup, City of Stirling, City of Swan and City of Armadale complete to the extent of minimum stub status as documented for the Regional Suburbs project.

Scope

As above

Sources

As per above, others to be added later

[edit] WA Politics

A dearth of info on this subject atm, and almost nothing online, but some good offline sources.

To finish the opposition leaders table (post-1930 anyway), these ones are needed:

Review all articles on existing premiers and opposition leaders post-1930 for sourcing.

(from ALP site - confirm?)
