Hi!

I'm a 30-year-old living in Perth, Australia, with my major interests being travel, music and politics.

For the first year of my time on Wikipedia, I was known as Orderinchaos78.

Contents

[edit] Music

I am pitch-perfect, sing and play guitar. I tend towards alternative rock but am by no means limited - my favourite bands include Porcupine Tree, Opeth, The Tea Party, Oceansize, Gomez, dredg, Tool, VAST, Faith No More, Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers, Muse, I Mother Earth, Finger Eleven, Sense Field and numerous others. My last.fm page is pretty indicative.

[edit] Travel

I have travelled all over southern Australia, across Canada, Eastern Europe and Turkey, and have a strong appreciation for different cultures and ideas. My time spent in Canada had a big effect on me - it's amazing how much at home I felt in a country that was not my own almost from the day I landed. I was born in Northern Ireland.

[edit] Politics

I have a big interest in psephology (the study of how people vote) and in progressive policies, and firmly believe in the Internet as a growing force in keeping representative democracy accountable. My current projects include trying to build an electoral map of Australia, Canada and NZ, and figuring out an electoral system which would work best in Australia's circumstances.

[edit] Wiki Contributions

My biggest interest in Wikipedia is resolving the woeful amount of information about Western Australia. My personal goal is to contribute, and to actively encourage others to contribute, towards building a comprehensive guide to the suburbs and towns which make up Australia. I've gotten involved in all sorts of rabbit trails - most recently standardising infoboxes across all towns and suburbs and creating a standard set of articles for Local Government Areas of Western Australia, doing some development work on templates, and more recently political history. I'm also keen to take more photos and share more of my (well-sourced, of course :)) political and electoral knowledge about WA in particular and Australia more generally. I may also look into doing a history of the telephone system and numbering in Australia, something I've always for some reason been interested in - and which isn't presently anywhere online.

Current active areas of focus (Now out of date - see top of talk page)

[edit] Userboxes

I am using part of my user space to host political and other userboxes which have been removed from Wiki template space. These can be found here. If you are aware of any others that have been removed, and can find source code for them, I'll see if I can link them.

[edit] Other Wikimedia projects

It's easy to sit on one's laurels at en, the strongest of all the Wikimedia projects with the highest number of contributors. However, there's plenty of other things out there that need our commitment and support. For my part, I intend to get involved with other language encyclopaedias as far as my language abilities extend (which is sadly not very far at the moment!), but also:
