In theoretical physics, an order operator is an operator that, unlike a disorder operator, does not induce a monodromy or discontinuity of other order operators. Perturbative fields in quantum field theory or the Wilson loop are examples.
Really? I thought that they are the quantum version of order parameters. QFT 18:53, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
