It is believed that the use of this image, Orderofthestick.gif, qualfies as fair use in the article The Order of the Stick because:

No substitute is available under a free license, nor could one be created that would provide the same information.
The use of this image does not impair the copyright holder's ability to sell the original work in any way.
This image contributes significantly to the article, as it serves to identify the OOTS webcomic, as well as to provide an illustration for The Order of the Stick art style in general.
The image is of sufficiently low resolution that it could not be used to create illegal copies of the original.
The image has been provided by the creator on his website as a promotional piece of art (in this case, a link banner) for those linking to the comic to use freely. Since this Wikipedia article contains a link to his website, it is within the usage that the creator has stipulated as being permissible.
