[edit] Re: Lists of Countries

You might want to check out: Category:Lists of sovereign states by year. These articles you are creating should me named List of sovereign states in XXXX. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:37, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Don't forget to categorize these by adding [[Category:Lists of sovereign states by year]] to the end of each. Also, you might want to work on expanding each yourself before creating the new one. It appears you intend to create one for each year; 300 lists with three nations each on them are much less helpful than a more-or-less complete list from a few choice years.--Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I've worked on a lot of those pages, actually. The reason I called this batch "List of countries in XXXX" is that I ultimately want them to be like the List of countries page (including both independent states and dependent territories) instead of the List of sovereign states page (which has only independent countries.) You can check out List of countries in 1948 for a more finished version of what I'm talking about. Orange Tuesday (talk) 06:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Crap. I am sorry if I screwed this up for you. I moved the articles to the soveriegn states names, since from their size it was impossible to see where you were going. Again, that's probably why its not a bad idea to work on one at a time. Keep up the good work, and I am sorry I have created a mess for you... --Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:54, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry. It's no problem. And you're right, it was a bit confusing. I'm going to try and add a lot more information to the existing pages before making any more new ones. Orange Tuesday (talk) 06:56, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Saudi Arabia Flag Variant (1934).svg

Hello!

I'd link to remind you that this image uploaded by you lacks a licence template. Image:Saudi Arabia Flag Variant (1932).svg, also by you, uses {{PD-self}}. Would you like to add this template also in the image of the Saudi flag of 1934? regards, 213.47.219.86 (talk) 19:44, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Whoops, I missed that. Thanks for catching it. I'll add the template now. Orange Tuesday (talk) 19:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of countries in 2006

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of countries in 2006, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: List of countries in 2007. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 21:13, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of countries in (year)

Hi there, I don't think you have selected a very good means of recording information on changes in the statuses of countries over time. A reader would have to make a close comparison of two long, information-dense articles in order to determine what (if any) differences there are. The fact that a bot which searches for very similar articles has picked these up (see above_ highlights this point. I intend proposing deletion of these articles (and replacement with something which highlights the changes over a timespan). You might therefore want to consider holding off on further work pending the outcome of the deletion debate. dramatic (talk) 03:16, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I think this is a valid criticism, but it assumes that readers only want to see the changes that happened over a given timespan instead of seeing the state of the world at a single point in time. I wrote the List of countries in X pages with the latter in mind. I do like the idea of a page (or series of pages) demonstrating the changes, though, and I think there's room for both of these approaches on Wikipedia. Would you consider making (or proposing) a companion page instead of deleting these pages and replacing them with something different? Maybe something along the lines of Timeline of country and capital changes? Orange Tuesday (talk) 15:44, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Flag images

Hello Orange Tuesday,

First of all, I'd like to thank you for uploading good quality SVG flags. Recently, I was creating flags of states in the South Artabian Federation, only to find out that you had already made them. I then proceeded to move them to wikimedia commons. So they could be used on the Dutch wikipedia. I'd like to ask you if it would be possible for you to upload you flags directly to commons, to prevent double from being done in the future.

Thanks in advance,

Sir Iain (talk) 11:52, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
