George W. Shaffer (October, 1851 - January 21, 1922) was a Major League baseball outfielder. He was born in Philadelphia, PA. He is the only outfielder to record 50 assists in one season, which he did in 1879 with the Chicago White Stockings.
Shaffer's brother Taylor also played Major League baseball.[1]
Shaffer died in Philadelphia, PA in 1922. He was laid to rest at West Laurel Hills Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA.[2]
