Orangefield
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orangefield is an electoral ward of East Belfast. It was created in 1973 taking in parts of the former Ormeau and Pottinger wards, as well as areas added to the City for the first time in that year. There have been only minor boundary changes since and the current review of Local Government in Northern Ireland has recommended little change in the ward boundaries.
The ward had the second lowest percentage of Roman Catholics in the 2001 Census[1] at 3.1%, with only the Woodvale ward having a lower figure. The ward also had the third highest percentage of owner occupiers at 87.6%.
The area has a large public park, which was considered as a site for the Northern Ireland Parliament Buildings.
