Opus tessellatum

Opus tessellatum refers to a type of mosaic made from tesserae. Opus tessellatum is usually used for background consisting of horizontally or vertically arranged lines. For shapes, often opus vermiculatum is used. we can use lots of different types of opus, and this will change the pattern of a mosaic, but it will also change the effect it has on the artwork. eg. wavy opus in blue will make effects of the sea.
