Opticom ASA is a Norwegian research and development company. The Opticom share has been listed at the Oslo Børs (Oslo Stock Exchange) since 1997 and on the main list since the first trading day of 2000. Since its establishment in 1994, Opticom has operated as a research and development company within the emerging field of polymer electronics. The Company has focused solely on developing storage and memory devices from polymeric materials which can be processed in liquid state. For years the company has developed polymer-based memory chips through its majority-owned subsidiary Thin Film Electronics (TFE). Opticom and Intel - which owned a minority stake in TFE - have wound down TFE's work because of technical and contract problems. Opticom has announced its intention to pursue other avenues for the technology underlying TFE's memory designs. Opticom also owns nearly a tenth of Fast Search and Transfer. Opticom often works as an example of the 2000 internet bubble, reaching a market capitalization of nearly $8 bln at its highest, still without revenues.
