From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Discarded heat shield from Mars rover Opportunity on the surface of Mars, imaged on Sol 335 of the mission, or January 2, 2005. Engineers were surprised to see that the heat shield had turned itself inside out (inverted).

Note Heat Shield Rock is visible in the background just to the upper left of the heat shield, and two metal springs are also visible on the ground. The vertical streaks are image artifacts caused by sunlight glinting off aluminium.
