I think application software is fine, better than network-related. Both are today obscenely huge categories, but the latter should be kept for stuff like Ethereal or OpenSSH, software which is about networks, not just using them.
The category OpenRPG fits best would be Communication software, because its purpose is to allow communication of several kinds with like-minded people, like Skype or a MUA.
For what it's worth, WebRPG invented most of the concepts here, game tree, dynamically created hierarchical character sheets, etc. Not sure how (or if it's worth) inserting more history about development timelines...
