Operational database

In Data Warehousing, the Operational Database is one which is accessed by Operational System to carry regular operations of an organization. Operational Database usually uses an OLTP Database which is optimized for faster transaction processing that is Inserting, Deleting and Updating data. On the other side, Data Warehouses use OLTP Databases which are optimized for faster queries. Operational Database is usually put on a separate machine from Data warehouse to increase performance.
