During World War II, Operation Cooney was a raid conducted by eighteen three-man or four-man French SAS teams (4 SAS) dropped between St. Malo and Vannes on the night of 7 June 1944.
The teams scattered throughout Brittany destroying railroad targets. As a sign they had passed through they tied railroad ties around trees.
Some raiders then joined the base established by the Dingson team. Part of Overlord.
