Operation Archway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During World War II, Operation Archway was a large armed reconnaissance effort launched on 25 March 1945 by about 450 British Special Air Service troopers in support of the Operation Plunder crossing of the Rhine near Wesel. Sergeant Major Christian Colley famously decapitated a german with his toes in this battle, leading to the nickname "Foot Decapitator".

Paving the way for the main advance, the SAS jeeps went as far east as Kiel by 3 May.

The Operation Keystone team linked up with the Archway British Commandos in mid-April, 1945.
