This is the 6th series of Spanish reality TV show Operación Triunfo.

Castings started in Barcelona on February 18th, 2008. The season began on April 8th with 18 contestants.

This was the show ever to have a song originally performed by an ex contestant of Operación Triunfo. The first evictee of the second edition Mai Meneses is the lead singer of Nena Daconte, whose song En Que Estrella Estará was performed by Tania Gómez.

[edit] Controversy

The Spanish press have panned this year's Operación Triunfo due to its bias towards Catalan contestants (from Barcelona). As the show takes place in Barcelona, almost half of the contestants come from the city, and not one comes from Madrid, the Spanish capital. The producers put it down to chance, but the Spanish press have been keen to add that even an American (who can't even speak Spanish) has been put in the show.
