Opera Atelier

Opéra Atelier, a Canadian Baroque opera company was founded in 1985 in Toronto by husband and wife duo Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Zingg. The company mounts operas from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their current director is Jane Hargraft, previously director of development at the Canadian Opera Company.[1] Opéra Atelier has performed baroque operas in New York, Houston, Stuttgart, Bremen, London, Singapore, Seoul,Tokyo and at the Chateau de Versailles, France. Opera Atelier received a number of Ontario Lieutenant Governor's Awards for the Arts before these awards were discontinued in 2003.[2]

Opera Atelier presents two operas per year and tours internationally biennially. They use period instruments, as well as sets and costume designs that reflect the aesthetics of the epoch.

Opéra Atelier has collaborated with other music organizations in Toronto including the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Opera Atelier also benefits from funding from the Toronto Arts Council.[3]
