OpenOffice.org XML
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Not to be confused with Office Open XML, an unrelated document format.
OpenOffice.org XML was the file format developed from the StarOffice file formats. OpenOffice.org used the format in version 1. The defined format complies with the requirements of ISO 26300 Open Document Format (ODF) standardization[citation needed]
Both StarOffice (since version 8) and OpenOffice.org (since version 2) have switched to OpenDocument as their native format.[1][2] OpenDocument is based on OpenOffice.org XML.
[edit] File formats
The format uses XML files to describe the documents. To minimize space, the files are compressed into an archive and given a suffix depending on what sort of data is contained in them.
File type | OpenOffice.org/StarOffice component | File (template) suffix |
---|---|---|
Text | Writer | sxw (stw) |
Spreadsheet | Calc | sxc (stc) |
Graphics | Draw | sxd (std) |
Presentation | Impress | sxi (sti) |
Formula | Math | sxm |
Master document | Writer | sxg |
HTML | Writer | html |
