OpenOffice.org XML

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OpenOffice.org XML was the file format developed from the StarOffice file formats. OpenOffice.org used the format in version 1. The defined format complies with the requirements of ISO 26300 Open Document Format (ODF) standardization[citation needed]

Both StarOffice (since version 8) and OpenOffice.org (since version 2) have switched to OpenDocument as their native format.[1][2] OpenDocument is based on OpenOffice.org XML.

[edit] File formats

The format uses XML files to describe the documents. To minimize space, the files are compressed into an archive and given a suffix depending on what sort of data is contained in them.

File type OpenOffice.org/StarOffice component File (template) suffix
Text Writer sxw (stw)
Spreadsheet Calc sxc (stc)
Graphics Draw sxd (std)
Presentation Impress sxi (sti)
Formula Math sxm
Master document Writer sxg
HTML Writer html
