OpenLDI

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OpenLDI is a high-bandwidth digital interface standard for connecting high-resolution flat panel LCD monitors to computers. While it is virtually unknown in standalone displays, it is a strong standard for internal displays, as in laptops. OpenLDI uses LVDS signalling.

[edit] Displays

The Silicon Graphics 1600SW is the only monitor seen in significant quantities which uses the OpenLDI standard connection. Formac sold the same monitor bundled with its own OpenLDI graphics adapter as Formac ProVitron 18/500 LCD panel monitors.

[edit] PCI Video Adapters with OpenLDI connector

  • Formac ProFormance 3 (special version with OpenLDI)
  • Number Nine Revolution IV (special version with OpenLDI)
  • 3D Labs Oxygen VX1-1600SW

[edit] Monitor switches

There is a 4-way monitor switch by Dr. Bott called MoniSwitch Pro LDI that allows sharing OpenLDI display among 4 computers, each of which must be equipped with an OpenLDI graphics adapter.

[edit] DVI to OpenLDI adapter

OpenLDI is rarely used today, as all popular home and office LCD panel monitors use a DVI-standard connector. There are several companies that make adapter boxes which allow using an OpenLDI display with a DVI graphics adapter.

  • SGI Multilink (adapts from VGA, DVI)
  • Dr. Bott SGI-Saver (from DVI)
  • PIXsolution PIX-Link 1600SW (from DVI)
