OpenERP is an ERP/CRM system.

The software is claimed to be a complete ERP and CRM system. It has separate client and server components. XML-RPC interfaces are available.

Among the features are management accounting, financial accounting, inventory management, sales and purchase management, tasks automation, marketing campaigns, help desk, and point of sale.

The software is open source and is released under the GNU General Public License.

The Linux user interface is GTK+ based. Windows and Mac OS X versions also available.

A web interface is also available using the Turbogears web framework.

OpenERP is often seen as an alternative to the major open-source ERP solution Compiere. Open ERP is not as mature as Compiere; however it is arguably easier to implement and customize due its cleaner and more modular approach.

[edit] Business Model

  • OpenERP was criticized in the past for publishing modules without source code included, which is not compatible with the GPL. However since February 2008 code is available to the public in the SVN repository.
