openDemocracy is a website for debate about international politics and culture. openDemocracy features articles by academics and policymakers, and "aims to fill a gap in the relationships between contemporary media and democratic political processes".[1] Prominent contributors to the ezine have included Kofi Annan, Sidney Blumenthal, David Blunkett, Peter Hain and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. openDemocracy's mission statement asserts that the website aims to provide a spectrum of ideas, "offering stimulating, critical analysis, promoting dialogue and debate on issues of global importance and linking citizens from around the world".[2] It aims to promote democracy and respect for human rights, particularly through giving a voice to those members of society who are traditionally marginalised.
