[edit] More stations to crowd toronto market?
I've been reviewing the FCC database, and i've seen some new channel allocations/station applications for the Greater Toronto Area. All station applications so far have been for Toronto, Ontario, and are to broadcast from the CN Tower The stations are:
- CHMY-TV 52 Toronto (possible re-naming of CKXT-TV)
- CJAA-TV 52 Toronto (possible re-naming of CKXT-TV)
- CJAA-TV-32 Kitchener (rebroadcast transmitter for Kitchener, Ontario)
- CJIS-TV 66 Toronto (Digital Television station only)
These also show up on other websites, such as http://www.tvfool.com, which has a rather large resource for TV stations and signals (even KMZ files to show signal strength of stations). Now, does this mean more stations are going to take to the air in the Toronto area? RingtailedFox • Talk • Stalk 23:12, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- No, these are old call signs that CKXT was considering prior to its launch, but ended up not using. Toronto has no new television stations either licensed or pending at the present time. Per NERW on January 6, 2003, CJIS was going to be the call; 66 is CKXT's digital channel assignment. And CHMY is currently in use in Renfrew. The CRTC's policy on this is different from the FCC's; there can't be a CHMY-TV in Toronto if there's a CHMY-FM in Renfrew. Bearcat 03:24, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

- ohh..similar to the FCC during the 1980s, with WJW-AM-FM-TV? As well, i suppose there will not be a kitchener translator, since one in london's going up? RingtailedFox • Talk • Stalk 15:28, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
