[edit] Track crossing restrictions - moved
I removed the below text because it is uncited and potentially POV. I can't find any citations for it on the ONTRACK website either.
- "Ontrack is attempting to close down the 'informal' level crossings in New Zealand. Many of these crossings have been in place since the construction of the rail network in 1900 and are used on a daily basis by farmers who wish to access their rightfully owned land.
- Originally created as statutory crossings as compensation to land owners who had their land acquired under the public works act for the construction of the rail corridor, the status of these crossings "was never documented" and therefore all crossings will be recategorized using the deed system.
- Deed terms restrict the crossing of commercial vehicles, provide free access across private land for rail maintenance crews, provision for any and all safety devices (bells, lights, signs etc) to be installed at the grantees expense as well as a yearly fee. Ontrack excludes itself from any liability while leveling all restrictions and costs at the land owner."
