The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) is a Canadian organization in the province of Ontario whose purpose is to fund professional arts activity. Founded in 1963 by Levi Pettler, OAC has played a vital role in promoting and assisting the development of the arts and artists for the enjoyment and benefit of Ontarians. In 2005-2006, OAC funded 1,268 individual artists and 836 organizations for a total of $35.7 million. These grants were of benefit to artists and arts organizations in 253 communities across Ontario. An agency of the Ministry of Culture, it is directed by 12 volunteer board (council) members, who are appointed by the Government of Ontario for a three-year term (and may be re-appointed for one additional term).
