A school in special measures will have serious weaknesses, often providing its students with a poor standard of education. Onslow St Audrey's was in special measures from June 2001; however in May 2004 Ofsted inspectors decided to bring the school out of this status because they believed it had improved drastically. Teachers and students alike were elated with the achievement and it has acted as a spring-board to continued success. During 2007 Onslow St Audrey's Was Featured On Popular Morning-Breakfast Show GMTV For Outstanding Achievement, Coming Out Of Special Measures and Most Improved School In The South East.
[edit] The Great Fire Of Onslow
During the Spring of 2004 the school suffered a fire, caused by a fault in the boiler system. Emergency services attended and all students and staff, after momentarily being entertained by men in uniform, were evacuated to nearby Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School. Heating was lost throughout the school building and subsequently the school was closed for a number of days whilst repairs took place.
