"Only God Knows Why" is a song recorded by Kid Rock and Twisted Brown Trucker band in 1998 on the album Devil Without a Cause. He also had to fight to get it released as a single just like he did "Picture" in 2002.

It was the first ballad released by the bad boy rapper. Critics hailed it has the 90's version of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird," though it comes off more like Bob Seger's "Turn The Page." It's a weary road ballad where Kid is searching for true love instead of one night stands, while longing for his family, especially his son back home. He wrote the first four lines in a county jail detox center in Michigan after being signed to Atlantic Records in 1997 and getting into a drunken bar fight.

It peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, #13 on Modern Rock Tracks, #5 Mainstream Rock Tracks and # 23 Hot AC.

In 2001 the song became an anthem after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the USA. Country artist David Allan Coe covers the song frequently at his concerts. The song is Kid Rock's favorite song of his own.
