An online ruler is a ruler with web-interface. Online rulers first appeared with the advent of Web 2.0 technologies and LCD display proliferation.[citation needed]
In order to paint the image of the ruler, the resolution (pixels per inch) of the screen is obtained using either Javascript or a CSS stylesheet
