Category talk:Online dating

  • I propose that this category be changed to "online personals" since not all personals necessarily aim at dating. My suggested name is a little more general and would allow the category not to be as sparse. Gemini6Ice 2 July 2005 00:44 (UTC)

[edit] Online personals

I run onlinepersonalswatch.com. Online dating is a subcategory of online personals. A personals site is anywhere that a user goes online to add their profile in the interest of meeting or communicating with someone. This includes dating sites, social networks, business networks and even the likes of diet.com for example. Profiles exists there. Even diet.com is a personals site, of sorts. I'd recommend having separate dating, social networking and business networking sections, but bearing reference to them as personals sites. Perhaps an overarching personals section to link down to these subsections.

I am a co-owner of a dating site. I agree partially with the above statements in that online personals needs its own category, but I believe there are three major types of personals sites all worthy of their own category. They are personals, dating, and social networking. To me a personals site is more of a text introduction site similar to what you see in newspapers rather than an all encompassing dating or social networking site.
