Onithochiton neglectus neglectus is a subspecies of chiton in the family Chitonidae.

This subspecies is endemic to New Zealand, including The Snares and the Chatham Islands.

This chiton is found on the underside of boulders in the low tidal zone.

[edit] Description

The shell is moderately large, easily recognized in life by its wide, fleshy girdle, and round backed, almost smooth, shining valves, ornamented with concentric darker lines, often with wedge-shaped markings down the crest of the valves.

Coloration of the valves is yellowish to bright green, sometimes with bolder patterns in dark green or reddish-brown. The girdle is lilac to pale greenish.

Length is up to 47 mm, and width up to 28 mm.
