One eskimO
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One eskimO are a four piece indie band from London, consisting of Kristian Leontiou (vocals), Adam Falkner (drums), Martin Waugh (guitar), Jamie Sefton (bass and horns). Frontman Leontiou has had past experience in the music industry in which, he was marketed towards the popular culture and in 2004, had a top ten hit in the U.K. and a widely successful album. Uncomfortable with the music and image he was pressured into presenting, Leontiou broke away from the pop scene and embarked on the One Eskimo project. In an interview with the Guardian Newspaper, he said;
"I wanted to create a sound of my own: magical, ambient, filmic, acoustic, beautiful and meaningful. I wanted to write about how I felt about life, love, losses and failures, highs and lows, even heartbreaks. But also about how amazing human life is and how mind-blowing our very existence is."
The band have since released the heartwarming 'Hometime' (early December 2007, U.K.) and the album 'All Balloons' is scheduled to come out on Little Polar Records in late March 2008 (U.K.). The video to 'Hometime' is currently circulating through the underground, appearing on MTV TWO's 120 Minutes session and online. The band's animated video has been nominated for the Public Choice award at the 2008 British Animation Awards.
They have a fan in Janice Long who presents her own show on Radio 2 and invited the band into the studio to record an interview and a brief, three song session. Long still plays tracks such as Kandi and Hometime regularly during her slot.
