One Yellow Rabbit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One Yellow Rabbit is a contemporary theatre company based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
It began as a small troupe in 1982 and has grown into one of Canada's best-known theatrical voices at home and abroad. Blending elements such as drama, dance, poetry and monologue, the OYR ensemble has charted a path that is known for its experimental work. While it self-identifies as a performance theatre, its work goes beyond the realm of performance art.
One of three resident companies in Calgary's main arts complex, The EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, OYR occupies a state-of-the-art facility called The Big Secret Theatre. The space can be configured as anything from a 200-seat black box performance venue to a larger party scene. Together with its additional space, Motel, and the Laycraft Lounge it has become a hub of the city's social life.
OYR's High Performance Rodeo
OYR challenges conventional theatrical genres in its annual January festival of new and experimental performances, the High Performance Rodeo first hosted in 1987. Participants both local and international have made the The High Performance Rodeo Western Canada's premier showcase for creative new work. The 2007 Rodeo will be OYR's 21st.
