One Story is a literary magazine which publishes 18 issues a year, each containing a single short story. The magazine was founded in 2002 by writers Hannah Tinti and Maribeth Batcha, who hoped to "get into the market of The New Yorker and Harper's, the magazines that come out frequently and have a relationship with their subscribers," but with an increased spotlight on fiction writers and a less daunting size.[1]

The magazine has published authors such as Stephen Dixon, John Hodgman, Kelly Link, and Scott Snyder; Snyder received a two-book deal with Dial Press as a result of his publication in One Story.[1] Stories published in One Story have appeared in The Best American Short Stories and the O. Henry Prize anthology.
