One King's Way is the second part of the trilogy by Harry Harrison & John Holm (author) that began in The Hammer and the Cross. Published in 1995.

It tells of the lead character, Shef's, journeys in to Scandinavia in search of the Spear of Destiny and his burgeoning rivalry with Bruno, a pious officer the Holy Roman Empire. Mixing real history with fictitious characters the book sheds light on the documented events that helped to shape the modern world while spinning a yarn comparable to the Arthurian legends. Followed by the final book in the trilogy King and Emperor.
