One Determined Heart is the first album by Australian singer Paulini, released in Australia on July 23, 2004 by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Audius Mtawarira, has a genre of R&B pop songs — mainly cover songs including some by Jeff Healey, TLC, The Four Tops, Barbra Streisand, Jeff Buckley and Bonnie Raitt. It was originally to have included a cover of the Negativland hit "U2", but this was rejected by her record company. The album debuted at number-one on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart making it her highest selling album to date. The singles released from the album became hits in Australia; "Angel Eyes" becoming her first number-one single and "We Can Try" becoming her second top thirty single. "Angel Eyes" was nominated at the 2004 ARIA Awards for "Highest Selling Single".
The album reflects Paulini as a performer and a music lover and has a diverse collection of songs that have a variety of genres; covers and originals. She states "Because I did so many styles on Idol, people kept saying, are you going to come out with something like Beyonce, or are you going to come out with something like Mariah? This album is very different. I love R&B but I love to sing other stuff, like old soul and funk. I'm just happy that I've got all different styles on the album - it's about who I am, because I enjoy singing every musical genre."[1] She also states "I absolutely love those songs [on the album]. I just wanted to try and do something different to them. They were a little hard, because the artists are so good. I basically just sung them the way I would sing them, with my kind of tone, so that listeners would instantly know it was me."[2]
