One Broadway Plaza

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One Broadway Plaza is a proposed 37-story office tower planned to be built in downtown Santa Ana, California. The building would be the tallest in Orange County, at 497 feet (151.5 m) tall. Advocates of the project feel that the tower will add prestige to the city, while opponents feel that while it is a good project, serious issues such as traffic, pollution, and student safety in the three schools directly across the street from the proposed project site, including the nationally renowned Orange County High School of the Arts, have not been addressed. A special election regarding this issue was held on April 5, 2005, and citizens decided that the building would be built.

This project was stopped on June 30th of 2006 because it was discovered that the demolition contractor (Jordan Demolitions) hired by Caribou Industries was exposing and possibly disposing of asbestos in a public landfill.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the fourth business quarter of 2008 but will seemingly not make that schedule due to the need to relocate two historical structures located where the proposed tower is to be raised, and the developer's need to acquire funds for the project and to secure tenants.
