The organization was founded by the Belzberg family in response to a 2001 Palestinian terrorist attack on a Jerusalem pizzeria that killed 15 people. The organization says it has distributed $12.2 million to more than 2,200 victims and families of victims since its founding.

Among the group's donors is football (soccer) star Ronaldinho.
