The movie begins when Trish(Mary Stuart Masterson)and her niece Patsy(Lauren Pratt) are at a diner planning on their next heist. Patsy tells her aunt Trish that its wrong that they are pick pocketing people and aunt Trish explains that it's okay in some way. Trish old beau Mel(David Hewlett) comes into the diner to talk to Trish and also being chased by two guys that he owe money to. Trish and Patsy leave the diner to go to Limberburg Mall. Patsy puts on a blond wig and begins to pick-pocket Mr. Limber(Lawrence Dane), the owner of the mall. They are later caught by the mall security guard Albert "Bert"(Mark Ruffalo). Trish and Patsy were brought up stairs to the office of Mr. Limber and were sentenced. After Christmas, December 26, Patsy was to be given to a family that can do her better and Trish was to serve time. Bert was to keep a watch over them until then. As the days went by Trish and Bert begin to have an attraction for each other. After Christmas being ruined for Trish and Patsy, Bert takes them to Maplewood where Patsy confess all her bad deeds to Santa's head elf and writes Santa a letter. On December 26th. Patsy was kidnapped by Mel and he was caught by Bert and everyone was back in the office were social services awaited them. But with Patsy wish coming true. They got a 2nd chance and Mel was hauled off the jail. Bert quit his job and wanted to marry Trish. The movie ends with Bert singing a song for Trish and them kissing.
